Homeland concluded on Channel 4 this Sunday. The final episode continued to live up to expectations: it just isn't as good as it should be.
The show attempted to create moral complexity and tension. The reality was that every twist was predictable and disappointing. While Damian Lewis is an excellent actor even he couldn't quite persuade the viewer that he was about to walk away from his family. Nor was it convincing that his daughter persuaded him not to hit the switch to annihilation.
Lewis and Claire Danes will return for a second series. Already we know the set-up. Nick Brody will continue to be torn by conflicting emotions while Carrie Mathison will be desperate to discover the truth, hamstrung by her mental issues.
Homeland has been talked up but it isn't 24, The Wire or The Bridge.
